Surprising find!,
January 23, 2009
Double bass and oboe may not sound like the most winning combination,
but this recording will convince you otherwise. Credit goes both to the
performers, who are technically outstanding and play with great
interpretive flair, and the composers, mostly made up of an
accomplished group of the performers' friends and colleagues. The best
represented (and not coincidentally, the best) of these is Timothy
Goplerud. Largely inspired by dance genres, including the rhumba and
tango, his three compositions (including the title track) are
especially charming and clever. The recording quality is also excellent
- no surprise, as the CD was produced by the legendary Howard Scott.
