SUMMARY:Science of Music at East Lake Elementary
DESCRIPTION:Music is sound\, but there are lots of ways to observe\, measure\, describe\, and predict the sounds musicians make. Our Science of Music explores how sounds are made and measured\, and what it looks like on an oscilloscope. We make some rudimentary instruments and demonstrate how sounds are made on oboe and bass to show how science and art intersect. Thanks to East Lake Elementary for inviting us to present this program from our “Pages of Music” series of educational programs.

SUMMARY:OboeBass! YPSCA preview at Forest Elementary
DESCRIPTION:We’ll prepare Forest Elementary third graders from the Robbinsdale school district for their upcoming trip to Orchestra Hall to hear the Minnesota Orchestra. This will the last of the ten schools and 1\,100 students we reach this month in the Robbinsdale Schools. \nYPSCA\, the Young People’s Symphony Concert Association\, is one of the nation’s longest-serving support groups for Young People’s Concerts (YPCs). YPSCA sends us out to give in-school previews for kids first trip to Orchestra Hall for a YPC. These school visits are also supported by Thursday Musical. We help kids know what to look for\, demystify concert procedures and etiquette\, play some tunes\, and fire them up for the orchestral experience! \nThis activity is supported both by YPSCA and Thursday Musical.

DESCRIPTION:Askelad is Norway’s folk hero! He is the underdog who always prevails against all odds by his wits\, ingenuity\, and good fortune. Margi Griebling-Haigh wrote Askelad and the Seven Silver Ducks for us to tell of one of his famous exploits in words and music. She also illustrated an Askelad book/CD combo we recorded of the tale\, so you can take the story with you! \nLyngblomsten is featuring us as performers for their festive Mid-Summer Festival. The Festival goes from 2:00-8:00\, with lots of crafts\, music\, food\, fun\, and dancing! Hope to see you there!
