DESCRIPTION:Julie Johnson and OboeBass! \nWe will play Julie Johnson’s “Folk Suite for Oboe and Bass” as part of her recital\, Now on Paper: New & Newish Works by Flutist/Composer Julie Johnson in Print for the First Time! It’s a wonderful\, evocative\, foot-stomping mix of Finnish and Metis folk tunes arranged for oboe and bass.\n\nThe concert is free and open to the public and will be live-streamed.The show features performances by Julie on amplified flute and looping & effects pedals as well as the premiere of “First Ice on Kabetogama\,” a piece commissioned and performed by Dúo León (Susan Miranda\, oboe & Hannah Palmquist Hite\, harp). Julie will also be performing her works with an array of local musicians: Trudi Anderson\, flute; Paul Fonfara\, clarinet; Julie Johnson & The No-Accounts: Doug Otto\, Vocals & Guitar; Drew Druckrey\, mandolin & resonator guitar \nSheet music will be available as printed music or by digital download. Payments by cash\, check\, Venmo\, & PayPal will be accepted. \nFree admission. DESCRIPTION:Mindekirken presents OboeBass! for the Feb. 2021 installment of their Tuesday Open House Series of cultural programs. \nNorway has a living folk tradition of music and stories that permeates the culture and continues to influence new art works. We will share stories and play some traditional folk tunes and national songs\, including music of Grieg\, Nordråk\, as well as some current composers influenced by Norwegian music and folktales. We will provide song lyrics and encourage participants to sing along exuberantly from the privacy of their own homes! \nWe will also share a portion of Margi Griebling-Haigh’s musical retelling of the classic Norwegian folktale of “Askelad and the Seven Silver Ducks.” (No actual ducks or trolls will be harmed in the course of this performance.) We’re sorry that due to the Covid-19 situation\, we had to postpone the Maithree – Music of Friendship concert we had planned for April 5. \nWe still do want to get together with our LAAC Coffee Concert audiences and open it to the internet! On Sun. Apr. 5 at 2:00 pm we will announce the roster of artists lined up for our 2021 season and air a live stream of OboeBass! playing a short 15-20 minute concert. \nWe’ll perform music of Tim Goplerud\, Steven Foster\, arr. by Eric Hansen\, and Adrian Mann. \nThe livestream will appear at 2:00 on both the Coffee Concerts Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/coffeeconcerts and at our OboeBass!
